Eco Bathrooms

green-bathWater efficiency performance and the environmental impact of manufacturing processes are primary considerations when choosing bathroom products for Lavare.

As a general Australian standard, the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) Scheme requires that certain bathroom products be registered and labelled for water efficiency. The scheme covers plumbing products (showers, tapware) and sanitaryware (toilets, urinals).  (For more information, visit the WELS website.)

There are also environmental considerations for the materials used and manufacturing processes.

Baths

The materials used to manufacture baths are an important factor in terms of their ‘green’ and ‘blue’ credentials.

For example, baths and shower trays made from Kaldewei steel enamel can be completely recycled without the need to separate the steel from the enamel.

Energy consumption, eutrophication potential of lakes and rivers (i.e. their enrichment by inorganic plant nutrients), and the global warming potential of the acrylic bath tub are in some cases more than twice that of steel enamel.

Victoria + Albert, Villeroy & Boch and Dado baths all use their own uniquely designed stone composite for their baths.

These baths not only look and feel more natural, but they will also retain the heat temperature of the water in the bath for much longer, making it less necessary for hot water ‘top-ups’.

The durability of these baths and shower trays is also significantly higher than that of an acrylic product.

Basins and Toilets

Quality European ceramic sanitaryware from world leaders Duravit, Laufen and Villeroy & Boch are made from natural materials such as clay, feldspar crystal and quartz. This means that the products are highly functional and long-lasting.

The high quality glazing of the basins and toilets means that they are easier to keep clean, and the toilets have been developed to optimize flushing performance — resulting in you and your family using less water.

Taps, Mixers and Showers

In addition to WELS Ratings, world-renowned brands such as Hansgrohe and Grohe are continually improving the performance of basin mixers, kitchen mixers and showers so that your enjoyment of water is not compromised.

Hansgrohe’s AIR POWER technology relies on air being drawn in the entire spray disc and being mixed together with inflowing water. About 3 litres of air are used for every litre of water. Their EcoSmart technology is a combination of sophisticated flow limitation, special spray jets and the mixing of water with air – which all helps to reduce water consumption.

In Australia, eco-sustainable production processes have been developed by Astra Walker to ensure harmony with the environment by reducing the impact their manufacturing places on valuable resources.

Cleaning Bathroom Products

How you clean your bathroom products is important, not only for the environment but also for your warranty.

Cleaning tips:

  • Tapware, showers and bathroom accessories should not be cleaned with abrasive cleaners or harsh detergents (e.g. bleach).
  • Never use cleaning products which contain hydrochloric acid, formic acid, chlorine pale lye or acetic acid
  • Use citrus-based or natural cleaning products
  • Apply cleaning products onto a soft cloth or sponge first, never directly onto the product
  • Always rinse the bathroom product thoroughly with clean water
  • Do not use steam cleaners.

Please note:  Products on international websites are not necessarily available in Australia as they may not comply with WELS or other manufacturing standards.
