With the popularity of cooking television shows, our love of entertaining and advances in technology, the kitchen has become a space for much more than just preparing meals. Today, the designs integrate space for work/study nooks, entertaining bar, different bench heights for activities, and USB plug-in.
As with the bathroom, it is a place that should be primarily functional, but also relaxing, well-designed and, of course, look fabulous!
The latest trends include using contrasting finishes and, in addition to the usual neutral colours of beige, white, grey and brown, adding a touch of green. Not only do shades of green invoke a sense of the environment and calmness, but they inspire culinary creativity (think sage, mint and pistachio).
To complement this palette, statement kitchen mixers are used in industrial finishes such as stainless steel, brass, copper and black.
And, to add to the industrious feel, open shelving allows for easy access to crockery, bowls and other cooking implements.
Lavare now does kitchen renovations and has a display and selections area in its Claremont showroom.
